HyperX Alloy Elite RGB review: A solid, Cherry MX-based option, despite its iffy software

HyperX's flagship keyboard has brilliant lighting and true Cherry MX switches, but it's oversized and a bit pricey. Oh, and did we mention HyperX's software utility takes up over a gigabyte of space?

Crystal-clear Cherry MX RGB lighting ; Dedicated media controls, including a volume wheel ; Software is 100% optional, and HyperX won't nag you about it

Flimsy wrist rest ; Oversized footprint, with a lot of empty space ; The software (somehow) weighs in at over 1.1GB after install

Like the Alloy FPS, HyperX’s Alloy Elite RGB is a perfectly fine keyboard. The only real issue is that it’s a perfectly fine keyboard in an ever-more-crowded market. It doesn’t undercut the competition on price the way G.Skill has, nor does it have a...

HyperX Alloy Elite RGB

True Cherry MX switches, per-key RGB lighting, and a slick, Corsair-style volume roller set apart HyperX's Alloy Elite RGB mechanical gaming keyboard, but its software could do with a touch-up.

Per-key RGB backlighting. Choice of three Cherry MX switch types. Dedicated media keys and volume scroller.

Software needs improvement. No dedicated macro keys.

Bottom Line: True Cherry MX switches, per-key RGB lighting, and a slick, Corsair-style volume roller set apart HyperX's Alloy Elite RGB mechanical gaming keyboard. But its software could do with a touch-up.

HyperX Alloy Elite RGB review

One of the best gaming keyboards made better with RGB

Simple, ergonomic design ; Colorful, diffused RGB lighting ; Preloaded with game profiles

RGB lighting hikes price ; Build quality betrays price point ; Underbaked software

The HyperX Alloy Elite RGB is a gorgeous and great-looking keyboard that lighting enthusiasts will love, but its software could use a little more time in the oven.

HyperX Alloy Elite review

A gaming keyboard everyone can love

Reasonably priced and fully featured ; Handy media keys and volume dial ; Comfy palm rest

Seriously thick cable ; No macro programming ; Limited lighting modes

The HyperX Alloy Elite is a reasonably priced gaming keyboard with nearly all the features of its more expensive competitors.

HyperX Alloy Elite RGB is trying to compete on Razer's turf

HyperX has made a name for itself with quality, no-frills hardware. So what's their first RGB backlit keyboard like?

HyperX Alloy Elite RGB Keyboard Review: RGB Light Bar Bling

HyperX, a subsidiary of desktop memory giant Kingston, is actively following the path into the peripherals market that was paved by the company's well-received line of headsets--the HyperX Cloud Alpha is our current pick for best wired gaming headset....

Excellent build quality ; Light bar colors blend well ; Standard bottom row allows keycap replacement

Aging USB 2.0 passthrough port ; Software UI can be clunky ; Keycaps will show finger grease and shine quickly

If you need a light bar on your mechanical gaming keyboard but don’t want or need extra macro keys, the HyperX Alloy Elite RGB is a high-quality option. But competing options feel more polished overall.

HyperX Alloy Elite RGB Keyboard Review: Gorgeous Design, So-So Software

The HyperX Alloy Elite keyboard is a beautiful, colorful peripheral with top-of-the-line key switches and a sleek aesthetic. The unoptimized software keeps the keyboard from reaching the upper echelons of gaming-keyboard greatness, but this HyperX...

Authentic Cherry MX keys ; Beautiful design ; Discrete media keys ; Great performance

Software needs some work ; Typing requires some practice

With top-notch Cherry MX keys, a gorgeous design and stellar in-game performance, there's a lot to recommend in the HyperX Alloy Elite RGB.

HyperX Alloy Elite Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

It was last year when we reviewed HyperX's first mechanical gaming keyboard, the Alloy FPS. While they showed off some designs for this keyboard at CES, the final product was different and lacked the RGB lighting. Sticking with the traditional red...

HyperX Alloy Elite Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review - FunkyKit

I'm not a professional gamer but gaming takes significant part of my free time. I'm also not reviewing keyboards often but I'm using them everyday and as every user I have my favourite type of hardware which is the best for my needs or fits into the...

solid build ; high quality components ; looks great ; quick key response

quite expensive but for some users it’s still worth it

HyperX Alloy Elite is the best gaming keyboard I had a chance to test. Some users can have some problems to get use to it but once they do, they won’t change it to anything. The keyboard reacts quick, is well designed and functional. It’s also really...
