AGEIA physics, SLI graphics, powerful CPU, speakers, additional display with performance monitor, high resolution screen, 2-megapixel webcam

No HDMI port, no e-SATA port, battery life

If you're a gamer and you need more mobility, this machine is clearly a great option. The lights are crazy and fun, if not too garish for some, and there's a tonne of power at your fingertips, including SLI graphics and an AGEIA physics card.

Dell XPS M1730 (Penryn)

 

The Dell XPS M1730 (Penryn) gaming laptop racks up the best 3D scores we've seen, but it's hefty in both weight and price.

Intel Extreme processor. Best mobile nVidia graphics to date. 4GB RAM. Excellent LED accents with customizable themes and colors. SLI configuration. Dedicated Ageia PhysX card.

Very pricey. Way too bulky.

Dell XPS M1730

Dual SLI graphics; strong mobile gaming scores; 10-key number pad; integrated Logitech GamePanel LCD; multicolored, built-in LED lights play along with music and games; backlit keyboard; can play media files without booting up.

Similarly configured laptops are faster on some tests; plastic lid and creaky hinges don't scream (or sound like) luxury; the albatross that is the massive power brick.

With a redesigned case that's chock-full of cutting-edge technologies, the Dell XPS M1730 tops our list of our favorite gaming laptops.
