Cambridge Audio Yoyo L review: A versatile box of audio tricks

 

The largest of three speakers in the range, the woollen-clad Yoyo is a versatile speaker box that makes for a great soundbar alternative too.

In the right EQ preset mode the sound is powerful and immersive ; Good bass when sub level up ; A savvy soundbar alternative ; Lots of connectivity (Bluetooth / Wi-Fi / optical / 3.5mm / HDMI) ; Chromecast built-in and Google Home control

Power cable is too short ; More EQ adjustment options - just four presets on the controller ; No Ethernet port for direct connection ; Not the cleanest or snappiest of mid-range frequencies ; No aptX/aptX HD

This woollen-clad box is a great alternative to a soundbar that's more versatile too. It can crank out the music with chunky bass, too, making it an excellent alternative to Sonos and the other, typically pricier, mainstays.

I was with a colleague in Richer Sounds where some other chap was listening to the YoYo L and a Sonos 5 side by side. I already have a Sonos 5 and I was really happy with it until I heard the YoYo L! Wow! It was so much better sounding than the Sonos...
