Cambridge SoundWorks Radio CD 745i

Cambridge SoundWorks Radio CD 745i

High-end tabletop clock radio with CD player; external iPod dock; dual alarms with unusually flexible snooze/volume options and battery backup; auxiliary line-in for connection to non-iPod devices; supports iPod video output; has RDS text support;...

Expensive, especially considering its lack of HD Radio and satellite radio support; remote and front panel controls could be more intuitively arranged; iPod dock is a separate module, not integrated into the main unit.

The inclusion of a CD player makes the Cambridge SoundWorks Radio CD 745i easier to recommend than its discless step-down model.

Cambridge SoundWorks Radio CD 745i

This expensive dock isn't quite worth its price.

Impressive sound. Nice amount of low-end thump. Alarm is pretty easy to set. The remote has lots of options.

iPod features are minimal. Controlling your iPod when there is a CD in the player is confusing. Expensive.

Review: Cambridge Soundworks Radio CD 745i Table Radio

Do you have A.D.D. when it comes to music? The Cambridge SoundWorks 745i is like getting a hit of sonic Ritalin. This tabletop system includes...

Sumptuous sound from a small system. Detachable dock stores both iPod and remote control. Clearly marked buttons and easy navigation, both on the unit and remote. Auxiliary input and headphone jack on front. Comes in black and white.16 FM and 8 AM...

Pricey little thing. Remote-controlled iPod navigation is challenging when doing it from afar. iPod can’t be set as your wakeup alarm. Lacks optical input

Cambridge SoundWorks Radio CD 745i

More than half a century of audio evolution has produced this modest box. Its grandparents are the high-end radios of the 1950s. Its parents are of the CD generation, a 1980s format increasingly viewed as archaic by the latest generation of listeners....

At $400, the Cambridge CD 745i isn't exactly cheap. Although it won't win any beauty contests, it is considerately designed, and its FM reception is among the strongest I'm aware of. Add CD and iPod capability-the latter at no extra cost, despite the...
