I owned this lense before. Unfortunately, the barrel should be locked while in carrying mode. Otherwise can be fragile fully extended.

I'm still in early stages of amateur photography, but this lens is great if you are out and about, and want to take a landscape picture one minute, and a flower picture the next. It is a bit heavy, but that's to be expected. Not having to change lenses...

This lens produces sharp pics with good contrast for the wide focal range it offers. A great travel lens. I am giving this as a gift and have not tried low light pics with it.
