The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-42mm is the starter lens for the company's Micro Four Thirds cameras—it's a good lens, but not a great one.

Minimal distortion. Optically stabilized. Sharp when stopped down. Includes lens hood. Inexpensive.

Plastic lens mount. Slow aperture.

The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH. lens is one of the smallest zoom lenses available for the Micro Four Thirds camera system, but soft images and distortion prevent it from really shining.

Compact design. Useful zoom range. Optically stabilized.

Soft images. Expensive.

This 14-45mm lens from Panasonic covers an angle of view equivalent to a 28-90mm lens on a 35mm camera. Focusing is performed internally, it comes equipped with an Optical Image Stabilisation system and it costs around £230. Panasonic's 14-42mm kit...

Excellent sharpness across the frame; Low distortion; Good build quality; Resistant to flare; Dedicated OIS switch; Low distortion

Falloff at 14mm may be noticeable if shooting Raw.; Not as compact as collapsible designs

Overall this lens puts in an excellent all-round performance producing sharp, contrasty images. Priced at £230, it is pretty good value as well.
