Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display (preview)

The new slimmer, lighter 13-inch Mac notebook gets a high-res display

Ultra high-res Retina Display ; Updated processors ; Fast flash storage

No option for 1TB storage ; No discrete graphics ; No removable memory or hard drive

Apple’s Retina notebook display comes to its 13-inch MacBook Pro, as does a processor update and the introduction of flash-only storage. The portable Mac powerhouse does get harder to tinker with after you’ve bought it, though.

2015 13-inch MacBook Pro

Despite Apple launching its new MacBook Pro range this year, the 2015 model is still incredibly attractive thans to its lower price, great performance and fantastic screen. It makes the MacBook Air look kind of pointless and sets a very high bar for...

MacBook Pro with Retina display review (13-inch, 2015)

The refreshed Retina display MacBook Pro brings faster performance and longer battery life, along with the same stunning screen and comfortable keyboard. This time around, though, Apple also traded in its already-best-in-class trackpad for a new,...

Gorgeous screen ; Long battery life ; Good graphics, even faster SSD speeds ; Comfortable keyboard

New trackpad takes getting used to; Force Touch gestures aren't that useful ; Discrete graphics still not an option on the 13-inch Pro ; The machine isn't any thinner or lighter than it was a year and a half ago

The refreshed Retina display MacBook Pro is mostly an incremental improvement over the previous model, with even faster disk speeds and stronger graphics, along with the same comfortable keyboard, slim design, long battery life and stunning screen. The...

Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display

This powerful 13-inch laptop has an amazing 2560 x 1600 display and superb build quality.

Superb high-res screen ; Excellent build quality ; Attractive design ; Powerful specs (aside from graphics)

Expensive ; No dedicated graphics ; No Touch ; Decent but not great battery life

Apple’s MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display is a worthy smaller sibling to the earlier 15-inch version, bringing the MacBook Pro and Air lines closer together than ever with its gorgeous, sleek chassis. It’s beautifully crafted, offers great...

Apple's older MacBook Pro is still here if you hate dongles

The smaller MacBook Pro with Retina Display gets a new CPU in 2015, faster flash memory and a new trackpad, but it's still only a minor update from the past few editions.

Apple adds new Intel CPUs, faster memory, longer battery life and its new Force Touch trackpad to the standard 13-inch MacBook Pro, which keeps its generous selection of ports.

The 2015 updates make only a minor difference to the hands-on experience, while similar high-end 13-inch laptops continue to get thinner and lighter.

While the upcoming 12-inch MacBook has all the buzz, this 13-inch system gets a handful of updates to remain a top choice for combining power and portability.

MacBook Pro (2015) review: welcome to Force Touch

Apple is rolling out a major new hardware feature this year with the introduction of what it calls Force Touch. It is a catch-all term for a combination of pressure sensitivity and haptic feedback...

The best trackpad gets better ; Retina display is never anything short of sublime ; Unmatched combination of battery life, performance, and build quality

The thinner MacBook Air does most things just as well ; Force Touch applications are still in their infancy ; USB-C port would have been a nice addition

Apple MacBook Pro 13-Inch, Retina Display (2015)

Although the fifth-generation Intel Core i5 processor and Force Touch trackpad are minor updates, this year's 13-inch Retina Apple MacBook Pro is still an easy top pick for high-end ultraportables.

More than 11 hours of battery life in our tests. Brilliant Retina display with higher-than-1080p resolution. Two Thunderbolt 2 ports. HDMI port. Comes with iLife and iWork software suites.

Only upgradable at time of order. Base Flash Storage capacity is just 128GB. Glossy screen. Ethernet requires adapter. Force Touch trackpad takes a little getting used to, and is of limited use right now.

The MacBook 12-inch is also equipped with a power-sipping Intel Core M processor, which is inherently slower. The MacBook Pro's connectivity and Intel Core i5 processor make it a much better choice for the traveling professional. The Apple MacBook Pro...

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display 2015 (13-inch, 128GB)

For spring 2015, the 13-inch MacBook Pro keeps the same body and high-resolution Retina Display as before, while adding some spec upgrades that run from minor to meaningful. As expected, the system moves to Intel's fifth-generation Core i-series chips,...

13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display review

A review of the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display so closely following a review of the 15-inch model has many layers. In isolation, the 13-inch Pro is just a smaller version of its...

Stunning display ; Solid battery life ; Impressive size and weight

Strained performance ; Smaller usable screen area than MacBook Air at Retina setting ; Only 128GB of storage

A tantalizing glimpse of the future limited by the reality of the present

Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (Retina Display)

Apple's new MacBook Pro 13-Inch (Retina Display) ($1,999 list) gives the insanely picky visual artist a new, more portable sidekick. The MacBook Pro has been redesigned with many of the features that made the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Retina Display)...

High-resolution Retina display. Includes two Thunderbolt ports. Standard 8GB of memory. Good battery life. Supports Power Nap

Pricey. Requires Retina-optimized apps for best user experience

The Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (Retina Display) is the best way to carry the pixels of a large-screen monitor with you on the road. It's ideal for people who make their living with visuals.
