The 24-inch iMac is the big boy of Apple's all-in-one desktop line. Despite a new design and upgraded specs, it constitutes a modest update. But this striking system will surely make you look twice.

Great enclosure, excellent display, good dual-binary gaming performance. Huge performance potential

Poor Rosetta performance. Front Row can be unresponsive

One could argue that the iMac is not meant for power users, and that's why Apple transitioned it to Intel first. But cropping images in Photoshop should not cause any dual-2.0GHz machine to slow to a crawl

Nun setzt auch Apple auf leistungsstarke Intel-Prozessoren. Die bisher verwendeten Power-PC-CPUs sind nicht mehr konkurrenzfähig. Der Test zeigt, wie schnell native und unter Rosetta emulierte Software auf dem Imac wirklich läuft.

sehr gute Leistung bei nativer Software; Ausstattung wie Imac G5 zum selben Preis; überarbeitete Multimedia-Suite Ilife 06 inklusive; schneller Speicher, schnelle Grafik

G5-Software läuft unter Rosetta langsam; keine festen Termine für native Versionen angekündigt

Wer Photoshop oder andere nur unter Rosetta lauffähige Anwendungen einsetzen möchte, sollte noch abwarten. Allen anderen bietet Apple einmal mehr bessere Leistung zum gleichen Preis wie bisher.
